WHAT ARE HEMORRHOIDS?

Hemorrhoids are veins that are painful and swollen and are located in the lower rectum or anus. Hemorrhoids are common during pregnancy and after childbirth, they are the result of pressure on the anus, this pressure causes the veins to swell and hurt, especially when sitting.

Causes:

Constipation
Effort to evacuate
To sit for a long period of time
Infections in the anus
Some diseases, like liver cirrhosis.

One or more hard and tender lumps near the anus.

The diagnosis is usually made by examining the area of the rectum. If necessary, some other studies such as anascopy, fecal occult blood test, or sigmoidoscopy will be ordered.

Treatment consists of:

Corticosteroid creams are over-the-counter and serve to decrease swelling and pain.
Creams with lidocaine to reduce pain.
To reduce stress and constipation, the stool softener.
Cotton underwear must be worn.
Do not use toilet paper with colors or perfumes, it is better to use baby wipes.
Try not to rub or scratch the area.
